August 6, 2015 – A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa today filed a suit at Igbosere High Court against Diamond Bank and the Punch newspaper over publication of her name as one of the director in the board of Thriller Endeavour, a limited liability company.
The bank had released her names as one of the directors in the board of the company owing it to the tune of N100 million which led to the publication in Punch Newspaper.
Dabiri-Erewa is demanding the sum of N500 million for defamation of her character in the said publication.
The newspaper on Tuesday published on its front page a story linking the lawmaker to Thriller Endeavor, alleging that she owed Diamond Bank over N100 million as one of the directors of the company.
While addressing the media today within the premises of the Lagos High court after her lawyer from Tokunbo Mumini chambers filed the suit, she said that her family had been thoroughly embarrassed since publication of the story.
The former federal lawmaker who was accompanied to the court by her husband noted that she had never been embarrassed in her life before like what the publication had caused her, adding she never approached any bank for loan before.
She said that her findings and due diligence from her lawyer at the Corporate Affairs Commission revealed that there was nothing close to her name in the Board of Directors of the said company.
She noted that there were some elements of mischief in what the newspaper had done with the publication.
She said she had earlier prepared a letter of protest to the office of the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Security Service for criminal investigation into the matter.
