August 12, 2015 – Erin Sutherland, a 36 year old woman has been sentenced to three years jail term for killing, Chloe, her 10 months old daughter in his Edinburg Park View home in February.
According to Sky News, the woman who suffered from post-natal depression pleaded guilty to culpable homicide on the ground of diminished responsibility.
Defence Counsel, Gordon Jackson who described the case as tragic said Sutherland also intended to commit suicide. But she will however treated for depression.
Meanwhile, the family is very upset with the development. A statement from the family noted that Chloe’s father Craig and his family are upset and saddened that the focus of reports on the case turned to how the system had failed Erin Sutherland and not the death of his precious little girl.
“Chloe was the victim in this case, a beautiful innocent child whose tragic senseless death is impossible to accept. Craig and his family deeply regret that Erin felt unable to accept the help and support which they were so desperate to provide”, the family said.
