August 17, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has appointed Chairman of the State Advisory Council Alhaji Tajudeen Adeniyi Quadri as his Senior Special Assistant on Community Development Affairs.
While making the announcement, the governor said the appointment will enable the state take advantage of his 20 year experience in the movement.
He is expected to create a platform to recognize excellence in self-development efforts and reward the communities by grants-in-assistance and other support through local intervention.
Speaking on the appointment, the governor said that government alone cannot provide all the needs of the communities, adding that the people have to be mobilized to do it themselves to complement government’s efforts.
“It is this self-help or community development approach as a veritable tool for sustainable development advanced by this administration that I now urge you to embrace”, he said.
He said that the over 3,100 community development associations will provide a veritable platform for mobilization for infrastructural provision and social renewal statewide.
He urged the associations to be alive to their responsibility in terms of sanitation and payment of tax adding that they will no longer be taken for-granted.
“Our project will be bottom-up rather than top-down. You will be part of our budgetary process because the government belongs to all of you”, he said.
