July 25, 2015 – Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has congratulated erstwhile Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria (SEC), Ms. Arunma Oteh on her appointment by the World Bank as Vice President and Treasurer.

In a statement jointly signed by its President, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama and Secretary General, Comrade (Barr.) Musa Lawal, the congress said it was not surprised by the appointment, affirming her landmark achievement at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria was a watershed.

“The capital market industry in Nigeria that had at a point lost investors’ confidence suddenly became the darling destination of foreign and local investments, thanks to her acumen, midas touch, doggedness and forthrightness.”

“Though the new assignment poses fresh challenges, the labour chiefs added, “but we are confident and will lose no sleep because we know she has what it takes to succeed.” ‎

“Her responsibilities, we learnt will include managing more than $150 billion in assets, maintain the World Bank’s global reputation as a prudent and innovative borrower, investor and risk manager among others”, the TUC said.

The TUC acknowledged that the task is going to be an onerous one but prayed God to protect and guide her.

“As she prepares to resume on September 28, 2015, the congress assures her of its support always”, he said.

TUC seized the opportunity to urge everyone in authority to borrow a leaf from Oteh in the discharge of their duties, adding that her excellence at the Securities and Exchange Commission has not only created room for her to serve the world but also brought recognition to the whole country.
