July 2, 2015 – The Lagos State Government has said that it is carrying out a gradual development of Ladipo Market, which is 80 percent occupied by Ndigbo in Lagos.

At a crowded press conference in Mushin, Lagos, Executive Secretary, Mushin Local Government, Hon Babajide Bello said that the state government has neither shut nor demolished any structure in Ladipo Market.

He said that what is happening is nothing but a phase development of the market as part of effort to transform the area in line with the change policy of the All Progressive Congress (APC). He added that most of the traders like the recent transformation and development of Tejuosho Market adding that development of that nature will take place in Mushin.

He said that though some traders are claiming that the roofs of some buildings have been removed, he said that he knows nothing about that development and that it is possible that the rain that descended heavily on Lagos State Thursday morning could have blown  off the affected roofs.

He said that ongoing development is done with the consent of the marketers adding that when completed all those who have proof of possession of any structure in the market will be allocated stalls in the market.

He said that it is not true that most of the original traders in Tejuosho market  were not able to afford the shops due to the high cost of the shops upon completion but that the original owners of shops in Tejuosho market were allocated their own spaces and are currently trading in the market.
