July 17, 2015 – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it felicitates with the Muslim Community and all Nigerians on the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, urging them to use the occasion to mark the beginning of a new era of love, righteousness and brotherliness among themselves as commanded by Allah.
The party said “Nigerians should not loose sight of the deeper significance of the Eid-el-Fitr but strive to bring to bear the blessings, lessons and spiritual re-invigoration from the month-long fasting in all their dealings.”
The PDP, in a goodwill message released by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh on Friday said Nigerians are good people and should use the spiritual exercise to draw nearer to God, who in His infinite wisdom chose to bring them together as one nation under Him.
The party urged the citizens to exemplify the love of God towards humanity by sharing with one another and showing charity to the afflicted and the less privileged, especially victims of the mindless acts of terrorism ravaging parts of the country.
“This Eid-el-Fitr affords us great instructions in humility, self-restraint, sacrifice, holiness and love for all. We must therefore use the occasion as a turning point in our lives. The time has come for us all as a people to jettison all artificially induced differences and work together for our common good.
“Our nation is blessed with abundant human and material resources but they can only be properly harnessed for a prosperous nation of our collective dreams, if we continue to show love and understanding towards one another irrespective of creed, class, tribe and political persuasions”, the party said.
The PDP however tasked the leaders to reciprocate the prayers and support of the people by upholding justice and honesty in all their dealings while shunning all actions and utterances that instigate and promote disunity among the people.
It also called for prayers and support for the security forces in the fight against terrorism while urging those behind the scourge to key into the new era by using occasion to retrace their steps and end the unwarranted bloodshed in the nation.
The PDP prayed for the unity and stability of the country and wished all Nigerians happy Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
