Update: Ambode sacks head of 76 government agencies

June 15, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode  today embarked on sacking spree, relieving all heads of government agencies and parastatals of their appointments.

The affected agencies are 76 in number. They include Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which has Mr. Babatunde Edu as General Manager, Lagos State Micro Finance Institution (LASMI), headed  by  Mr. Balogun  Macfoy, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service(LIRS), which has Mr. Tunde Fowler as Chairman,  Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board which has Mr. Bolajoko Fashola as Executive Secretary and Lagos State Urban Furniture, Regulatory Agency which has Mr. Joe Igbokwe as General Manager.

Other are Lagos State Water Corporation, which has Mr. Shayo Holloway as Managing Director, Lagos State Agricultural Inputs Supply Authority which has Mr. Bolaji Balogun as General Manager, Agricultural Lands Holding Authority, which has Mr. Adeyinka Omirin as General Manager, Coconut Development Authority which has Mr. Oladeji Adisa Alao as General Manager, Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency, Mrs. Adenike Adekanbi as General Manager.

Also affected in the mass purge are General Manager, Lagos Resident Registration Agency(LASRAA),  which has Mrs. Yinka Fashola as General Manger, Lagos State Lotteries Board which has Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila as General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board, which has Engr. Damilola Ogunbiyi as General Manager.

Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello made the announcement in a statement made available to correspondents in Lagos.

According to him, Ambode has approved the dissolution of all Boards of Parastatals and Agencies of Government with immediate effects.

It added that the dissolution is with the exception of the Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission and the State Independent Electoral Commission.

“While expressing the appreciation of the Governor for the modest contribution of members of the dissolved Boards, Mr. Bello wished them well in their future endeavor”, the statement said.

The statement added that constitution of new Boards would be effected in due course.

Meanwhile, the Governor has also approved the appointment of Mrs. Abimbola Shukrat Umar as the new Accountant General of the State/ Permanent Secretary, (State Treasury office).

Mrs. Umar, prior to her new appointment, was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

A holder of the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics (1983) from the University of Ibadan and Masters of Science in Corporate Governance (2013) from Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds United Kingdom, Mrs Umar is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Nigeria Economic Society respectively.

She also cut her teeth for over 15 years in the private sector, particularly with the renowned KPMG International before joining the Lagos State Civil Service as Chief Accountant in 2002.

Her appointment, according to the statement, takes effect immediately.
