June 20, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday joined Muslim faithfuls at a special thanksgiving Jumat and Ramadan prayers, where he called on them to adhere strictly to the lessons that the period teaches and move closer to Almighty Allah.
The Governor who spoke at the special prayers organized for him and his Deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule by the Chief Imam of Lagos, Alhaji Akinola Garba, at the Lagos Central Mosque, Lagos Island, added that the Holy Month of Ramadan signifies a period for giving alms to the needy and abstinence from all evil deeds.
The Governor added that all Muslims should adhere to the dictates of Islam and embrace peaceful co-existence for a better society.
“It is only in a peaceful atmosphere that all plans and programmes of his administration can be actualized”, the Governor said in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna.
He implored Muslim clerics to continue to pray for his administration so as to achieve the set goals for the State.
Earlier in his remarks, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I, assured Governor Ambode that all residents will support his administration and continue to pray for him to achieve all his developmental agenda for the State.
Oba Akiolu urged all residents to pay their taxes regularly to enable the present administration provide all the necessary infrastructural amenities for the citizenry, while suing for patience from residents for the Ambode administration.
Among those who graced the occasion were the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello, Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mr. Lekan Akodu, Chief Imam of Lagos, Alhaji Akinola Garba Ibrahim other Islamic clerics.
