June 9, 2015 – The suit filed by Civil Society Organisations challenging Governors’ Pension law comes up for hearing tomorrow Wednesday in Abuja.
Listed as Incorporated Trustees of Human Development Initiative & 40 others vs Governor of Abia State & 73 others, the suit comes up in Court Nos. 7 at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In a statement signed by Tunde Asaju, the civil societies are calling for all activists and the legal team since the case is coming up, nothing that nearly every state governor and house of assembly members filed objections and defence, strongly opposing the case.
“We need all support to ensure we strike down the bogus pensions laws that allocated huge sums of money to ex governors and their deputies”, the group said.
The National Assembly had introduced similar bogus pension for its ex principal officers in the aborted 4th alteration of the constitution.
Lagos House of Assembly also tried to pass similar bill for its ex-principal officers but the civil societies filed a suit at the Federal High Court Lagos to forestall it.
We gathered that Jigawa house of assembly successfully passed the law. According to the group, it is a new public wealth looting method that must be strongly challenged.
