June 15, 2015 – A 3-man female syndicate has been apprehended in Lagos for alleged pilfering of gold necklace worth several thousands of Naira.
They were also accused of stealing a phone, one laptop and an unspecified amount of cash. The trio, who were said to have been in the practice for long, were arrested last week after stealing a set of gold chain, necklace and cash at 1, Ojolowo Street, Otto Awori, in Ijanikin area of the state.
We reliably gathered that the teenagers were nabbed by residents, when the owner of the shop, one Mrs. Yetunde Awolola raised an alarm.
Identified as Maria Falolu, 14, Jelila Abbass, 15 and Adijat Seidu, 16, they were said to have been handed over immediately to police operatives attached to Ijanikin division for further investigation. They were accused of committing the crime on 31st, May 2015 at about 12.00 noon.
According to sources, the suspects live with their parents within the vicinity of Ijanikin in Oto Awori Local Council Development Area, where the crime was committed.
Police public relations officer, Mr. Ken Nwosu could not be reached to confirm the story. But a police source at the station confirmed the report, saying investigation revealed that they have been in the act for a long time. We gathered that the suspects would enter into a shop, demand for an item that is not available in the shop.
” In the case where the owner says she doesn’t have and wants to bring the item from another shop, they would steal items from the shop before the owner returns. They have stolen a lot of goods from many unsuspecting shop owners in the area before luck ran against them”, a source said.
The suspects have since been arraigned at an Apapa magistrate court, where they were reminded at Idiaraba Remind Home.
