June 22, 2015 – Head Coach of the U-23 team,  Samson Siasia has sacked seven of the players in the team after an unimpressive 3-3 draw with Wikki Tourist of Bauchi.

Siasia said he dropped the boys because they failed to any value to the team adding that the development will allow him to bring in fresh blood that can contribute their quota to the success of the team as they prepare for the crucial Africa U-23 Championship qualifier against Congo next month.

“I have given all these players enough time to showcase what they can bring on the table, but I am so disappointed that till this minute they still have not been able to convince me, so they have to give way for others to come and show me and my technical crew what they can offer. I thank them for their contribution to the success of the team in the past, but we have to move on, if they show signs of improvement in their clubs they can be recalled to the team,” he said.

The affected players are Sani Faisal, Lukmon Gilmore, Emmanuel Ammana, Tonbara Tiongoli, Freedom Omofonma, Uche Okeke and Gabriel Sunday.

Meanwhile Siasia has called the  following players who were part of the Flying Eagles team to New Zealand to report to camp on Monday, June 22, as the one-week break he granted them to rest with their families is over.

The players are Musa Mohammed, Taiwo Awoniyi, Kingsley Sokari, Saviour Godwin and Dele Alampasu, while overseas-based Musa Yahaya, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon will report two weeks to the first leg scheduled for Abuja.
