Fashola Flays Diplomats for Covering Vehicle Plate Numbers

May 25, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has warned foreign diplomats who have formed the habit of covering their number plates in Nigeria, stressing that nobody is above the law.

Fashola who was speaking at a workshop on law and order said number plates eases the process of identification of owner of vehicle in case of accident.

“Nobody is above the law in any society even if you are a diplomat in a country where you cannot be arrested. You must carry the plate.

“One is better protected by doing so. If an accident occurs with such vehicles, how will it be possible for anyone to know who the owner of the vehicle was; call his relatives? If it is stolen, how will the security officials locate the vehicle?”, he queried,  adding that displaying  number plate is important for security reasons.

Fashola who also used the occasion to hand over vehicles to the security forces  noted that the vehicles are public property.

“When you get the vehicles, I want you to understand that those vehicles are public property and bought with tax payers’ money. It is meant for public use and not for personal use. It mustn’t be taken to your personal homes,” he said.
