April 3, 2015 – Jehovah’s Witnesses today commemorated the death of Jesus Christ all over the world. The JW we gathered held the celebration in hundreds of Kingdom Halls in Nigeria and all over the world.
Our correspondent reported that Jehovah’s Witnesses view this day as the most important day in their lives and view it as the only celebration that Jesus authorized his disciples and modern Christians to celebrate in memorial of his death which they believes is the basis of resurrection after death and forgiveness of sin(1 John 4:9).
In one of the kingdom halls, our correspondent noticed that the celebration was done with two emblems, the bread, a cake-like object which they called unfermented bread, meaning the sinless body of Jesus Christ(Mark 14:22) and the wine, which they say is a symbolic representation of the blood of Jesus Christ(Mark 14: 24).
The bread was first passed round after prayer to each of those in attendance, followed by the wine. Our correspondent gathered that nobody ate of the emblems because they were not heaven bound(Luke 22:29 &30 and John 14: 2 and 3). According to the speaker only those with heavenly hope will eat and drink of the emblems.
Brother K. Ogunwale, who delivered the talk quoted Luke 22:19, stressing that it is a command that Jesus gave all his followers and that it remains the only celebration authorized by Jesus.
All in attendance were happy as the speaker made everybody to understand that all those in attendance are showing appreciation for the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He said the JW chose today because it corresponds to the Nissan 14 that Jesus Christ instituted the memorial in the Jewish calendar.
