March 14, 2015 – Residents of Kpakpa Asafa in Orile- Agege are now counting their loses, no thanks to last Monday rain which wreaked havoc in the area, blowing off roofs and pulling down structures.

Among those at the receiving end was the family home of Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa.

So far some of the residents have been evacuated to emergency relief camp in Igando, Lagos.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu made the revelation when government officials visited the scene of the incident to ascertain the level of devastation.

He said officials of the agency moved in as soon as the incident was brought to his attention and that palliative measures taken by the state government include evacuation of some affected families to the relief camp.

He said engineers from the state have been drafted to the scene to access the damage and help those affected to put their residence in order.

Speaking during the visit, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola promised to assist those affected to get back to their homes. He however called on residents of the area to desist from dumping refuse on drainage channels to allow for free flow of water during the rain.
