No News is Worth Dying For
[wysija_form id=”1″]March 27, 2015 – The Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) has called on journalists covering the 2015 general election to consider their safety and inherent threat as they go ahead to cover the election.
A statement signed by Secretary, National Monitoring Network on Safety of Journalist (NMNJ), Mr. Gbemiga Bamidele also called on journalists to cooperate with the security agencies.
The union called on reporters to stay away from harm, stressing that no news is worth dying for.
“At all times in covering of the elections, journalists should consider their safety to any threat that may occur. We should make our safety paramount, always; we should also cooperate and work with security agencies”, the NMNJ said.
He called on Journalists to remain non-partisan and adhere strictly to the code of ethics for journalists and electoral guidelines for media coverage of the election.
“As purveyors of information, our central disposition will enhance our integrity and credibility in the eyes and ears of the public”, the statement added.
