[wysija_form id=”1″]March 24, 2015 – All 150 passengers and crew aboard a German Airbus A320 that crashed in France on Tuesday have been confirmed dead. The airbus, Flight 4U9525 was travelling from Barcelona to Dusseldorf, when it crashed in the French Alps.

The plane, Germanwings is a low-cost airline owned by Germany’s main carrier Lufthansa and it is said to have an excellent safety record.

Among those on board were 67  Germans among whom are 16 pupils returning from an exchange trip. Deputy Prime Minister of Spain,   Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría said 45 passengers had Spanish names and that one Belgian was on board.

According to French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, one of the plane’s black box recorders has been found and will be examined immediately. He said the cause of the crash is not known and that the plane did not send a distress signal.

Speaking on the crash, French President Francois Hollande said there were German and Turkish victims. “There should be no French victims but I am not completely certain. We are in mourning. It’s a tragedy on our soil,” he said.

“German Chancellor, Angela Merkel  described the incident this way. “This is the hour in which we all feel deep sorrow,” and that she was planning to travel to the crash site.

Bruce Robin, a prosecutor from Marseille, told the Reuters that he had seen the wreckage of the aircraft from a helicopter.

“The body of the plane is in a state of destruction, there is not one intact,  piece of wing or fuselage,” he said.
