January 18, 2015 – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that it is already on its way to victory based on the large turn-out of voters that came out to welcome the party in its ongoing campaign.

Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh made the revelation at a press conference in Abuja where he announced that campaign train off the party will hit the North with effect from tomorrow Monday.

He said the party’s campaign has been greeted with large turn-out of Nigerians who are willing to return President Goodluck Jonathan to office.

He said the PDP will defeat the All Progressive Congress(APC) in the whole of the South-East, South West including Lagos.

“As our campaign train moves to the North tomorrow, we will leverage on the goodwill we enjoy from our citizen in that region”, he said, adding that the North remains a stronghold of the PDP in the last 16 years and that the party will win large number of votes as a result of track records of performance.

“Our strength lies in the fact that out of the 19 states of the North, the PDP controls 12 with solid structures oiled over all the years in wards and local government area. The capacity of our winning machine is buoyed by the various tangible development projects that have hugely affected the lives of the ordinary Nigerian in the North, a factor that has put us in vantage position to win back our original states of Sokoto, Kano, Nasarawa and Kwara as well as win in Borno, Yobe and Zamfara States”, he said.

He added that as the party goes to the North, it is not only asking for votes but loaded with verifiable achievements.

“For instance in education, the once abandoned Almajiri boys can now go to school as President Goodluck Jonathan initiated and established the Almajiri System of Education , the first of its kind with over 150 special schools already built across the Northern states while others are nearing completion.

Also, out of the 14 new universities established by President Goodluck Jonathan, 9 are located in the Northern states, thereby ensuring that all the states in the region have a federal university.

He said that 2 million out of the 2.7 million job provided in agriculture are all in the north adding that the President has eliminated corruption from fertilizer distribution through introduction of e-wallet to make fertilizer directly available to farmers.

“Today, our silos are brimming and food pyramid are returning to the North”, he said.
He added that Jonathan has connected cities in the North with rail and that the Abuja-Kaduna standard guage rails is expected to become operation in the first quarter of 2015.

“Today, the Minna-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano narrow gauge has been rehabilitated. The Makurdi-Lafia-Kuru-Bauchi-Gombe-Ashaka-Maiduguri as well as the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna are nearing completion”, he said in addition to network of roads in the North.
