January 12, 2015 – The military authority has said that only about 150 people were killed in the ongoing assault on Baga town in the quest to retake the village from members of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said the figures the military got after a thorough investigation negates what has been published by the media.
He said that settlement has been subject to attacks by members of the sect with frequent cases of assault and harassment adding that most of the residents have moved out which accounts for depletion of the population.
“Because of the attacks most of the people have vacated the settlement that means that the population of that that settlement has depleted before the attacks”, he said.
It will be recalled that the military stormed the town with ground forces supported by air strikes following occupation of the settlement by members of the sect.
