Four Killed in Lagos as Flying Container Condemns Vehicles

January 23, 2015 – At least four people were killed and five others injured when a containerized vehicle collapsed on five vehicles at Ketu, along Ikorodu road on Friday morning.

Among the victims was a pregnant woman.
The incident took place when many were on their way to work and it resulted in heavy traffic build up on Ikorodu roads as many rushed to the scene to witness the incident.

Among the victims were passersby who were crushed when the container landed on them.

Speaking on the incident, Lagos Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Hyginus Omeje told The Union Newspaper that four people lost their lives, adding that five others were injured and that five vehicles, all commercial were involved.

“Four people lost their lives, five vehicles were involved and five people were injured. Altogether, there is a total of 9 casualties” he told our correspondent.

We gathered that all those injured in the incident have been taken to the various hospitals for medical attention.

An eye witness told our reporter that the trailer conveying the unlatched container was heading to Ikorodu from Ketu on the Ikorodu road and lost control in motion.

“It was in the process of trying to control the vehicle that that the container which was not latched to the body lost balance and landed on the affected vehicles”, Blessing Alonge told our reporter.

It will be recalled that the Lagos State Government had outlawed use of unlatched containers on Lagos road.
