Fashola Warns Nigerians Not to Vote Old People in Office

January 14, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola on Wednesday warned that it will be counter-productive to put old people in office, warning that they will sleep on their table and will not be able to work.

Fashola who was speaking at the flag-off All Progressive Congress Campaign in Lagos told the audience that when he took office he was 44 and that he could count the number of white hair in his head, adding that now he is 52 and that he could count the number of black hair in his head and warned against putting old people in office.

“When I took office, I was 44, then I could count the white hair on my head, now I am 52, I am now counting the black hair on my head. Don’t put old people there oo. If you put old people there, they will sleep oo and will not be able to work”, he said at the Sky Power playground in Lagos.

Fashola who called on all to pick up their Permanent Voter Card(PVC) to be able to vote said that the challenge confronting Lagos is management of resources and that Akinwunmi Ambode meets that need.

It was a well-packed campaign that completely knocked down the whole of G.R.A, Ikeja and surrounding streets. The frontage of Nigeria Police College was blocked with traffic wardens having a Herculean task to control traffic as all surrounding streets were jammed with human and vehicular traffic.
It took more than an hour for vehicles to traverse from Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH) gate to the venue just few meters away from the Lagos High Court.

It was carnival both within the venue and outside as thousands of Nigerians( including students, some in their teens) trooped into the venue as early as 10AM but by 2:50 when the main speakers, began to address the audience half of those in the crowd were already on their way out of the venue.

There was business as usual as party members catch in on the large crowd to sell items ranging from barbecue to rice, soft drinks and beer. To the right, the Lagos Health Mission was stationed, were medical personnel took their time to examine those who cared to grace their stand.

In his address, former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu said that eight years ago, he introduced the current Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola to them adding that the last eight years has been that of construction and infrastructural renewal.

“The roads are getting better”, he said adding that the prayers of many is for their children to do better, to out-performed you. This is what I am proud of today”, he said adding that help is on the way and that Akinwunmi Ambode will deliver the needed help.
