December 9, 2014 – At least one person was killed on Sunday morning when an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) planted by suspected member of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram detonated on a football field in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The victim was a sugarcane seller who was returning home after making sales. The explosion according to Channels took place at Arikime Primary School playing ground.

The bomber, according to witnesses, intended to kill early morning football players who often besiege the busy Arikime playing ground for exercise only for the IEC to be triggered off prematurely by the sugar-cane seller who ran into it with his wheelbarrow.

The attack came on a day that members of the sect numberin about 1000 lunched what has been described as an audacious attack on Cameroon and temporarily occupied a military base before they were repelled by the Air Force.

Over 30 militants were reportedly killed by Cameroonian forces during the onslaught. Cameroon Information Minister Issa Tchiroma said on Sunday.

“Units of the (Boko Haram) group attacked Makari, Amchide, Limani and Achigachia in a change of strategy which consists of distracting Cameroonian troops on different fronts, making them more vulnerable in the face of the mobility and unpredictability of their attacks. At least 34 militants were killed after the army laid siege to a base used by the militants in Chogori, and seven others and one soldier were killed near the town of Waza, he said.

Earlier in the week, Cameroonian soldiers said they stormed Boko Haram training camp where they dislodged and rescued about 84 children that they were indoctrinating.
