November 10, 2014 – Public servants in Lagos state are currently spoiling for a showdown with the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola over his refusal to raise wages as agreed during a negotiation with workers in 2011.

The union which said it has showed enough understanding with government is demanding an upward review of worker’s salary effective January 2014; reversal of the compressed steps of 1 & 2 of the original steps before the implementation of the Lagos State Consolidated Salary Structure in the year 2011 which hitherto depleted the take home pay of the Lagos State Workers.

In the workers alert published by the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, the union noted that labour and workers are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the government is not willing to fulfill her own side of the promise by foot dragging.

“It is on this note that we call on all workers of Lagos State Government to join forces with the Labour movement in achieving our set goals. We should be ready to face the challenges ahead as we have shown enough understanding with the present day government”, the union said.

According to the union, “whereas the state government in January 2011 signed an agreement with the Lagos State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council(JNC) for salary review, it is also necessary to inform you all that several meetings were held and correspondences exchanged, the government has refused to fulfil his own part of the agreement signed”, the group said.
