November 25, 2014 – A socio-political group known as Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative(CRGI) has called for the removal of Inspector General of Police, Mr. Abba Suleiman and Director General of the Department of State Security Service(DSS), Mr. Ita Ekpeyong for carrying out what it called unconstitutional duties.

The IGP had deployed his men to the national assembly complex thereby making members of the All Progressive Congress APC) in the house to scale the fence to access the complex. But Force Spokesman, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu said the policemen were deployed following a report that thugs were about to invade the assembly.

The Department of State Security Service (DSS) on the other hand deployed men that allegedly ransack what has been described as an APC data capture centre in Lagos. But the DSS said it invaded the area following allegations that APC was using the centre to hack and duplicate Permanent Voter Card (PVC) issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

But in a statement, Executive Director of the group, Mr.Nelson Ekujimi described the development as treasonable.

“We are hereby using this medium to call on the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) as well as the National Assembly committees on Police affairs and national security to immediately commence investigation and recommend prosecution of the personnel responsible for this show of shame and treason by these security agencies.

“We are also calling for the immediate removal from office of IGP Suleiman Abba and DG. DSS Mr. Ita Ekpeyong for violating the constitution and their oath of allegiance by bringing public and international opprobrium upon the image of the Nigeria Police and the DSS in particular and Nigerians in general through this national embarrassment and treasonable act”, he said.

He called for an immediate reorientation and reformation of the DSS and the Nigeria Police which he said have become a threat to national peace and partisan politics.
