Linda Manufacturing is Hell on Earth, Say Lagos Lawmakers

October 27, 2014 – Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Industry, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Yusuff has described the working environment of Linda Manufacturing Company situated on Iju road as ‘Hell on Earth’.

Yusuff who led members of the committee on a tour of the company where Atukpor Wisdom, a worker died on Wednesday, 24th, September, 2014 said the working environment was not conducive for human and that management must improve on the working condition.

“The Committee has moved round the whole premises of Linda Manufacturing Company makers of hair weavon, and we found out that the production hall is extremely hot for human being.

“I must confess to you that the committee is not happy with the situation and feel sorry for our people working in this type of condition. You can see that within 10 minutes we spent in the production section, see how everybody is sweating profusely”, he told reporters.

Also speaking, a member of the committee, Yinka Ogundimu faulted the management for their inability to provide safety measures for workers adding that the death of Mr. Wisdom could have been avoided if certain precaution had been put in place.

“I really sympathized with workers of this company, even though if someone is not sick before he comes to the office, with the condition of this heat and hot atmosphere definitely the person will fall sick when he gets here. The Committee is not here to witch-hunt anyone but rather to put things straight to avert any future occurrence”, he said.

Some of the Union members who spoke with members of the committee said they never expected what happened to the deceased, nothing that the death is unfortunate and a big loss to the organization and his family.

Responding, Chairman of the company, Mr. Femi Ajanaku said that the management had package a sum of N1.5million for the family of the deceased, promising that the management would improve on welfare package of workers and their working conditions.
