September 27, 2014 – Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has imposed indefinite curfew on the state following outbreak of mayhem and destruction of property in the state.
The curfew according to the governor will last from 7PM to 7 AM.
“The curfew will remain in place until further notice”, he said in a state broadcast as he appealed for calm.
The violence occurred in Ado-Ekiti as news of assassination of former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ekiti state, Mr. Omolafe Aderiye filtered into town.
He was killed by unknown gunmen at Ijigbo area of Ado Ekiti on Thursday night after allegedly leading a group of thugs to beat up a judge presiding over a case involving Governor- Elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.
The rampaging thugs reported burnt down Fayemi’s campaign office and secretariat of the All Progressive Congress in the state.
Several building were also torched during the mayhem, forcing the governor to impose indefinite curfew on the state.
The governor also paid sympathy visit to widow of the deceased.
