Recep Tayyip Erdogan Wins Turkey Presidential Election

August 10, 2014 – Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday emerged winner of the Presidential election held in the country.

Erdogan polled 52 percent of total votes to defeat his closest rival, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu who polled 38 percent of total vote.

Meanwhile, Ihsanoglu has admitted defeat. Erdogan hopes to strengthen the country’s ceremonial presidency.

He has been prime minister since 2003 and was barred from standing for another term.

His election is seen as a good omen for Turkish economy.
