August 8, 2014 -The Lagos State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the reversal of the exorbitant LASU school fees, but posits that the gesture is momentary, deceitful and politically induced rather than in good faith.
The party also described the reversal as nothing but a Greek gift and alerted Lagosians to expect many more Greek gifts from the All Progressive Congress(APC) as the 2015 Lagos Governorship election gets close.
“We congratulate the dogged unions of LASU on the reversal of the School fees. The reversal is however obviously with ulterior motives. The elections are near being one of the motives. Governor Fashola should apologise for causing delay of LASU students graduating on time. He must also send the fees reversal policy to the Governing Council of LASU for immediate legal instruments. All these must be done before this government can be taken seriously”, Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Taofik Gani said in a statement.
The party also wondered why Governor Fashola would usually prove stubborn and ignore public cries, thereby causing non-redeemable losses in the system, “the eight Months Old Doctors strike that led to over 3000 deaths should be fresh on our minds”, he said.
The party explained that it came to the conclusion because Governor Fashola did not consult the Governing Council and that even the House of Assembly had no knowledge of the spontaneous announcement.
In the opinion of the Party, Governor Fashola was jolted by the open aspersions and protests organised by all unions on the campus during the convocation programme which he was present. “So he needed to save his face to escape any more terrible disgrace, thus the announcement of unplanned reversal of the fees “, he said.
