Dangote, Elumelu, Peterside Donate Over N200m, Ambulance to Fight Ebola

August 21, 2014 – A group of eminent Nigerians have continued to donate generously to support government’s effort to fight Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The group includes Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr. Tony Elumelu and Mr. Atedo Peterside. They are all donating millions in various sums through their foundation, while Shell Petroleum Limited has also donated ambulance in support of the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre in Lagos.

Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu who made the revelation in Abuja said Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s foundation donated N152 million to sponsor the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre in Lagos adding that ANAP Foundation founded by Mr. Atedo Peterside has also promised to support affected private hospitals to the tune of N100,000 per bed space and that First Consultant Hospital in Lagos where the index case was managed would be the first beneficiary. The hospital will will receive N4 million (four million Naira) since its bed capacity is forty.

He said that Tony Elumelu Foundation has pledged a donation of N50 million to support the Federal Government’s containment efforts.

The Minister explained that the N200 million donated by the Federal Government to the Lagos State Government was not part of the N1.9 billion earmarked by President Goodluck Jonathan do fight Ebola Virus Disease as part of emergency measures adding that the donation does not preclude other assistance that may be rendered to the state through the Federal Ministry of Health.
