With $70 Million, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Displaces Transformers in the US

AS TRANSFORMERS LEADS WORLDWIDE WITH $.752 BILLION

July 13, 2014 – Dawn of the Planet of the Apes emerged the biggest film at the weekend in the US after making sales to the tune of $70 million to push its closest rival, Transformers into the second position in the US box office chart even as Transformers 4, was the biggest worldwide with actual sales to the tune of $752, 531,000 followed by X-men Days of Future Past.

Put together by Fox Pictures, Planet of the Apes passed through 3, 967 theatres in the US to emerge the most patronized movie at the weekend. Transformers: Age of Extinction which was number one last week was pushed into the second spot when sales dropped to $16.5 million after touring 3,913 cinemas in the US to occupy the second spot on the chart.

At number three is Tammy, a new film just coming in. Put together by Werner Brothers, Tammy, grossed $12.910 million after passing through 3,465 viewing centres to retain the third spot on the US chart. 22 Jump Street however emerged as the fourth most patronized movie at the box after making sales to the tune of $6.7 million from the 2, 811 viewing centres where it was exhibited in the US.

In the fifth spot is How to Train Your Dragon 2, put together by Fox Pictures. The film made $5.865 million after touring 2,885 film viewing centres in the US to hang on to that spot on the chart.

Other new films which made box office appearance at the weekend were Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania by Reliance Big Pictures, Boyhood by IFC and Land Ho! by SPC.
