July 4, 2014 – Commuters having anything to do with Ikeja have been warned to keep off as from 5PM Friday as Council of Chief in the Palace of Olu of Ikeja have announced their intention to hold Oro Festival between the hours of 7PM.
Sources told Starconnect Media that a local town crier from the Palace has already announced the decision warning residents and passersby to stay off the area from 5PM to 5AM.
We gathered that the Oro Festival is part of the ritual that must be performed for the passage of the Olu, Oba Rauf Matemi Amore 1 who passed on Tuesday after a brief ailment. Our correspondent was told that the Oro will hold each day until the Oba is buried.
The Oro is usually marked with violence in some area preparatory for the burial of a departed Oba.
Markets in the area have been shut in Ikeja since Wednesday in honour of the departed Oba. Sources informed our correspondent that markets are likely to open by Saturday.
