July 23, 2014 – At least 40 passengers were killed on Wednesday when a Trans-Asia plane crashed in Penghu Island, near Magong Airport.

The plane crashed after a failed emergency landing in Taiwan, local officials have said.

“There were a total of 54 passengers and four crew on board”, Taiwan’s CNA news agency reported. But Aviation officials said flight GE222 aborted its initial landing and then crashed.

Speaking on the incident, Transport minister Yeh Kuang-Shih said that 47 people were killed, while 11 others were injured.

“It’s chaotic at the scene,” Jean Shen, director of the Civil Aeronautics Administration told reporters.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were immediately drafted to the scene to rescue the injured.
