The former and most valuable Director General, ever Produced by the National Agency for Drug Administration and Control(NAFDAC), Professor Dora Akunyili is Dead. She died in an Indian hospital where she has been receiving treatment. She was 59.
Akunyili was a delegate to the ongoing Constitutional Conference in Abuja. Her ailments came into public reckoning when her emaciated photograph surfaced on the floor of the conference looking quite pale and unbecoming of the ever cheerful woman who fought against drug counterfeiting the way it has never been done in Nigeria and won several accolades.
She also survived assassination by drug lords who were angry with her for making them to lose investment in the illegal drug trade. She was a former Minister of Information and Strategy. She contested for a Senate seat under All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA) in the Anambra Election in the last general election but lost to Dr. Chris Ngige of the All Progressive Congress(APC).
Her spokesman, Isaac Umunna confirmed the incident to Eagle Online. But we gathered that she died last week. She is survived by a husband and many children.
