Opeifa, who stated this while receiving the report submitted by the 11-Man Inter -Ministerial Committee on Ikorodu Boat Mishap in his Office, at Alausa, Ikeja, said that to further ensure the safety of Lagosians who daily travel on the road, water and rail system the Government would soon launch the Passenger Insurance Scheme (PIS).
The Commissioner assured the Committee that the State Government would study the report submitted and implement the necessary recommendation in it in order to ensure safe movement of passengers on all waterways.
He commended the Committee for a job well done and their commitment towards serving the State, adding that after having carefully studied the report, including its recommendations and findings, the State Government would inform the public accordingly.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee on Ikorodu Boat Mishap, Mr Olajide Tairu, commended the Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa and the Permanent Secretary, Mr Oluseyi Coker (MNI) for giving them the opportunity to serve the State in such capacity and the support needed throughout the duration of their work.
It will be recalled that the Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, constituted the 11-Man Inter-Ministerial Committee on Boat mishap on Friday, 11th April, 2014 with a charge to ascertain and determine the immediate and remote causes of the 2nd April, 2014 Boat Mishap at Ikorodu and such other incidents including the roles of all concerned as well as make necessary recommendations to avoid reoccurrence and promote safe practices.
