Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State ash revoked contract awarded to Electro-Technics Company to install pedestrian guard rails in Marina axis of the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business District (CBD) Mrs. Derin Disu revealed this at a press briefing in Lagos. She said the contract awarded at the sum of N125.6 million was terminated because of delay in executing the project.

According to her the contract is one of the four major projects embarked upon by CBD to improve the level of infrastructure in the district.

“ Two of the contract have been completed while the last contract would be handed over before the end of June.” Disu who confirmed that the contractor over delayed in the construction work said the project ought to have reached an appreciable stage with other contracts awarded last year.

She noted that the state government awarded the contract because it discovered the need for the work to be done.

“If the contractor is not moving along and if he has been paid a sizeable amount to mobilize him to site and is still lagging behind. The general policy now is to ensure that such negative attitudes are terminated so that it doesn’t become inimical to the progress of government.

“The policy of the state government is that contractors must move along with the intense and purpose of the state government. And this is to provide service and upgraded infrastructure,” Disu added.

She explained that the contract was terminated by the state government for non-performance. Disu emphasized that the state government will no longer tolerate shoddy jobs done haphazardly in the state.
