The crucial UEFA championship final match between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid on Saturday night claimed the lives of two middle-aged men in Lagos Island who slummed and died when their darling team failed to equalize in 90 minutes. The match ended 4-1 in favour of Real Madrid.
The two men who were chronic supporters of Real Madrid are Mr. Olusoga Ogunbanjo ( 39), a refrigerator technician, resident at 23a, Smith Street, off Evan Street, Lagos Island and Mr. Bambo Sholeye, (42), staff of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), who resides at 49/51 Apatira Street, off Olushi Street, Lagos Island respectively.
We gathered that Olusoga, went to a barbing saloon to shave himself and later sat among other people to watch the match.
According to ‘Danku’, owner of the shop, “Soga came to shave and after shaving, he decided to watch the match but slummed when he was told that his team, Real Madrid has failed to level-up in full time.
“It was another boy sitting beside Soga that noticed that he has slummed that raised alarm. We quickly rushed him to the emergency section of the Lagos General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by doctor on duty”, he narrated.
Just a stone throw away, Bambo Sholeye who had also watched the match at a nearby shop left the place in frustration, lamenting failure of Real Madrid to equalize.
He is said to have suddenly slummed while relaxing in front of his house and was taken to Lagos General Hospital by neighbours who were disappointed when doctor on duty confirmed him dead.
The remains of the two men were on Sunday morning buried at the public burial ground on the Island by their respective relatives and friends.
Efforts to speak with the wives of the two deceased proved abortive as their families were in agony state to even answer any question.
