The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Tuesday disbursed a total sum of N13. 7 million as housing and car refurbishment loans to 34 members of staff.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Afolabi Abdulfatai Adeyinka, stated that the gesture was to enable beneficiaries fulfill their dreams of becoming house owners.

He explained that though the amount of money each of the beneficiaries was given might not be enough to buy or build a house, it would go a long way in assisting them to achieve their dreams of owning their own houses and becoming fulfilled as human beings.

Jusice Adeyinka, therefore, enjoined the first batch of beneficiaries of the loan scheme “to see the loan as a seed which they must nurture to enable it germinate and produce fruit for their own benefit”.

The Chairman also commended the Lagos State Government for approving the loan scheme for implementation for the staff of the Commission to give them a sense of belonging and motivate them for higher productivity.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Adeyinka Jeje noted that it was the desire of an average worker, particularly in an African setting like ours, to own his or her own house, stressing that it was also the duty of a responsive employer to assist workers to achieve their personal desires and goals, including the dream for home ownership.

He said the loan“was borne out of the genuine desire of the commission and the State Government to continually ensure the welfare of staff and alleviate their pains and suffering’’.

He said the amount represents the first part payment of the total amount approved for each of the beneficiaries of the housing loan while the balance would be paid later.
