Lagos Island Comes Alive as Carnival Kicks-Off with Parades

Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, Nigeria venue of the 2014 Lagos Carnival is currently bubbling with colours as students from various secondary schools embark on parades in the arena showcasing colourful attires artistically designed in imitation of creature that appeal to each of the participating schools.

Some of the designs include birds of various kings, tortoise and other animals. The colourful event was however heralded with a parade of a mobile sculptural piece of former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which looks quite beautiful though not a true representation of the former governor.
Nigerians and foreigners have also continued to stream into the arena with some of the seats still empty by 12:40 PM.

Some of the schools taking part in the junior carnival include Magbon Alade Senior Grammar School, Itolo girls Secondary school, Odumola Secondary school, Epe Seniour Secondary School and TinCan Island Juniour High School. Wife of the Lagos State Governor Abimbola Fashola however lifted the spirit of partaking students when she joined one of the groups in the parade.

Besides, Nigerians have continued to catch in on the turnout of guests, making brisk business by selling face mask of various designs and food items.
