Former National Secretary, Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ), Mr. Jola Ogunlusi has put together a book titled ‘NUJ: History of Nigerian Press’ which he hopes to present to members of the public come March 30 at the Airport Hotel, Lagos.
The book takes a look at the history of NUJ in 1955 to 1977, the birth of Nigerian Guild of Editors(NGE), Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria(NPAN), Nigerian Press Organisation(NPO), and Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria(BON).
The book addressed specialization in the media, NUJ and investment, training institutions, NUJ as a trade union, Battle for press freedom and the Freedom of Information Act(FoI Act).
It also takes a look at restructuring of union by government in 1977, Bola Adedoja’s regime and the crisis that confronted NUJ as at that time, the George Izobo era to that of Sonny Irabor, Lawal, Iwoha, Ogundipe, Adeyemi, Akwu, Garba and the NUJ secretariat.
In his forward to the book, first Executive Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande said he is impressed with what Joe Ogunlusi has been able to put together in the book.
In his appraisal, Ogunlusi said it took him a total of N1.8 million to put the book together and looks forward to a very good outing during the public presentation.
