Lagos State Government on Thursday said that nurses in the state school can now study and get to the peak of their career through a new policy that will enable them to obtain a doctorate degree with a specialty in Research and Clinical Nursing.
Governor Babatunde Fashola made the revelation while speaking at an occasion to hand over the new School of Nursing and Maternal and Child Care Centre to management of Alimosho Specialist and General Hospital, Igando.
Fashola explained that government did not sell the old School of Nursing at Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikoyi contrary to insinuation. He said that those who made the allegations have not been able to provide documents to authenticate their claims.
He said that despite the allegation, his government remained focus. “They have not been able to show documents of transfers but it is their way and that is why they continue to be the problem of Nigeria but we must continue to provide the solution and I am happy that we kept our focus and today Lagos has a School of Nursing located in a specialist and general hospital in Igando”, he said.
The governor who did not state what the state government hopes to do with the old facility in Ikoyi said the new school is ready adding that it is an indication of government’s commitment to service towards reducing the risk of infant maternal mortality and to empower the nursing profession mostly dominated by women.
