The Lagos State Government has said it is working on deploying part of the 2014 fiscal appropriation to fund two Independent Power Projects (IPPS) in the state.
One of the IPPs would be situated in Ikeja and it is expected to power the Lagos State Police Command which includes the Nigeria Police College and courts in the axis while the other IPP would be set up in Lekki.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ben Akabueze made the revelation in his breakdown of the N489, 689,092 appropriated for the year 2014.
He explained that the state government projected to spend N320 million on allowance for individuals what would be posted to the state either as intern or members of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) while N899,908, 895 would be spent on local travel and transport.
Akabueze who was flanged at the briefing with Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Aderemi Ibirogba, that of Works, Mr. Obafemi Hamzat, that of Finance Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi¸ Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation, Mr. Abimbola Shodipo, Special Adviser on Media, Alhaji Hakeem Bello, that of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Iyabowale Aluko and several permanent secretaries said N902, 039, 213 will be spent on utility.
The state government also planned to spend N567, 124, 693 on stationeries, N477, 877,138 on maintenance of office building while N886, 296,051 will be spent on motor vehicle maintenance. The sum of one billion, eight hundred and forty-five million, two hundred and ninety-nine thousand, seven hundred and thirty-two Naira (N1,845, 299,732) will go for fuelling vehicles.
The commissioner explained that N143, 973,440 will be spent on uniform and protective outfits. Besides, Akabueze noted that N1,706, 727, 396 will be spent on workshop, training, conferences and seminars. The state government also hopes to pay N4, 301, 814, 760 to the Alausa IPP in lieu of power consumption while N5, 350,000,000 will be spent on road, drainages and street lighting maintenance.
Scholarship and bursary award for students will gulp N1, 061,515,500 in the year 2014 while N550 million will be spent on promotion of tourism. The state government also hopes to subsidies the operation of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency(LAWMA) with the sum of N5, 724, 696,000, while the operational cost of the state executive will be N77,746,363, 621.
