Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) to restrict the activities of skaters on the highways, saying that skating, which is now common among our youth is a very dangerous sport and needs to be regulated.

The House, which made the call on Monday at its plenary sitting after Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu raised the issue under matter of urgent public importance, implored Governor Fashola to urgently address the menace of the skaters on Lagos roads, especially the highways.

While frowning at the manner in which the skaters operate on the highways without considering the inherent danger in it, the members called on the State Ministry of Youth Sports and Social Development to provide a more conducive place for the skaters in order to reduce high rate of accidents on our roads, and also directed the Ministry of Transportation to immediately restrict the activities of the skaters on the highways rather than banning them.

In a related development the House has again called on the Ministry of Transportation to deploy more officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management to Ikorodu road where motorists usually drive against traffic in the evening on a daily basis.

Hon. Sanai Agubiade, representing Ikorodu Constituency 1, brought the matter before the House, saying that this ugly trend has compounded traffic situation on the road. The motion was subsequently supported by Hon. Akinsola Adebimpe who represents Ikorodu Constituency II and several other lawmakers.
