The Lagos State Government has warned of attempt by fraudulent individuals to defraud Nigerians using a fake website in the name of selling houses through the Lagos State Home Ownership Scheme (Lagos HOMS).

In a statement signed by Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mr. Ade Ipaye and that of Housing, Mr. Bosun Jeje in behalf of the Lagos State Government warned unsuspecting Nigerians that such invitation to make payment for purchase of properties through the advertised website is nothing but a sham.

“The attention of Lagos State Government has been drawn to the activities of some fraudulent persons inviting unsuspecting members of the public to subscribe to the Lagos State Government Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (Lagos HOMS).

“By way of a fake website www.nigeriapropertycentre.com/blog/buying.selling/the.lagos-homs, these fraudsters have provided false information purporting to emanate from government and requesting payment to certain banks. They have also sent out agents to sell printed forms to innocent members of the public who seek allocation of flats under the Lagos HOMS Programme.

“The said information, invitation and demands did not emanate from Lagos State Government and any person or persons making such demands should immediately be reported to the nearest Police Station or Law Enforcement Agency. Lagos State Government, in pursuit of its people oriented programmes and projects, is assiduously developing housing units and a sustainable mortgage scheme under the Lagos HOMS Programme, but it is yet to finalize and put into public domain the modalities for accessing the units.
“While tracking down the suspects for arrest and prosecution, Lagos State Government assures all citizens that full details of the Lagos Homs programme will be presented and widely publicized at the appropriate time”, the state government said.
