The Lagos State Government has decentralised housing loans for local government workers in the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas.
A commissioner in the Lagos Local Government Service Commission, Otunba Oshibodu made the revelation during a tour of local governments in the state.
He said the need for the decentralization arose since loan granted staff in the unified system is inaccessible by those at the local government thus making the system prone to complaints. Speaking during the ceremony, Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale urged the commission to instil discipline in member of staff as obtained in the state civil service, citing cases of misconduct among the junior staff cadre in the local government service commission.
Permanent Secretary in the council pension office, Mr. Jamiu Ashimi said the just concluded examination for intending council managers was purposely made to cut across cadres and merit. He added that, it was also open to the leadership of administration at the council to the most capable and competent persons.
Ashimi said the recent redeployment of local government staff to various councils was aimed at creating equity and fairness among the staff in the unified local government service and the commission.
