The priesthood is no doubt a respectable tradition but unholy conduct among some has brought it into contempt in the larger society. Such is the fate of Rev. Father Josiah in the film, Mother’s Tears. A very good looking priest, father Josiah is posted to one of the local parish, where he found Akudo(Mandy Ezeh) irresistible.

Josiah(Mike Ezuruonye) promised to put her parents into juicy committees only if she would be his woman. Akudo gets pregnant but it dawns on her that the priest has a vow never to marry. The baby is born and adopted by a lady who turned out to be Josiah’s sister. But Akudo’s insistence on getting married to Samuel against the wish of Father Josiah led to one problem after another.

Also of interest is the subplot featuring Father Josiah’s affair with Ujuwan, a lead vocalist in the parish, leading to his expulsion. What followed is rapid change for Josiah from a gentle priest in the parish to a monster. Rated 18 by the National Film and Video Censors Board, Mother’s Tears is no doubt one of the best films to be produced in recent times.

It comes with a good storyline and clear pictures. Audio is excellent. Chimezie Emelonwu produced the film while Kaz Chidiebere directed it. Ngozi Ezeonu, Mike Ezuruonye, Chinwe Owoh Queen Nwonkoye and Mandy Ezeh are some of those used by the producers to tell the story.
