The wife of the Lagos state Governor, Dame Abimbola Fashola has called on Nigerian youths to imbibe high moral values to emerge leaders of tomorrow.
Mrs. Fashola gave the charge In Ikeja at the closing ceremony of this year’s Summer school organized by her pet initiative, the Lagos Empowerment And Resource Network, (LEARN).
Fashola said values learnt by young people would ultimately shape the future of the country, charging youths to embrace such values as hard work, honesty, and patriotism.
She said character development was deliberately introduced in this year ‘s programme to enable participants have a balanced moral and vocational training, regretting that only three centres were used this year as against seven last year due to paucity of funds.
Also speaking the guest speaker, Professor Mopelola Omoegun urged the youths to shy away from greed, lust and pride which may mar their future.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said the state government was passionate about youth development and would continue to explore ways to support initiatives aimed at youth empowerment. Noting that entrepreneurial skills were important, the wife of former Governor of Cross River state, Mrs. Onari Duke advised the youths to impart what they had learnt at the summer school on their peers.
She urged the pupils to be inclined to acquiring vocational skills to build their future and that of the nation.
“Life is all about creativity and entrepreneurship is all about creativity and adding value. I urge you to acquire these skills and by so doing you are not only making yourself better you will be making the society better “.
No fewer than 1800 students from across different public schools participated in this year’s summer school programme where they learnt various vocational skills and other empowerment training.
