Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has called on Nigerians to learn to live in  peace, love and unity and join hands to repair the fabric of love and oneness that binds the nation together.

In his annual Ramadan message, Fashola said Nigerians must close ranks and refuse to accommodate the machinations of those who seek to profit from their pains or widen the lines of division. “But we must work together to bring an end to that”, adding, “We are all members of one nation and in spite of our diversity; we are bound by a common humanity.

The month of Ramadan is intended to teach us how to live good and compassionate lives. It is a month of sacrifice, abstinence and above all, love. In that respect, I encourage us to be our neighbour’s keeper. Look out for your neighbour in the firm belief that he too will look out for you”.

He expressed hope that the lessons of Ramadan would abide beyond the month of abstinence, adding that as “we celebrate Eid-el-fitr, which marks the end of the Ramadan fast, I urge everyone, regardless of our religious beliefs, to continue to keep the peace and to live in unity with one another”.

The Governor congratulated Muslims “for completing one of the Five Pillars of Islam” adding, “As we celebrate, let us remember that moderation is important. Let us also remember the poor and less privileged people in our midst and extend a hand of love and support to them” the governor said.
