INFIDELITY AS DESTROYER IN ‘POWER BEHIND THE THRONE’

For many who are married, lack of faithfulness to the marital vow remains the most destructive element in the contract hence the holy books warn against defiling the union. And many who have gone against this advice are either not alive or live with very sad memories for the rest of their lives.

Silvia suffered dire consequences for playing a fast one on Benjamin, her husband who is often out of the home on business trips in the film Power Behind the Throne. Silvia, a young lady feels deprived emotionally and decides to fall in love with George, junior brother to her husband and later connived with him to eliminate her husband. But revelation that followed after the marriage set the stage for Oliver, the only son of Benjamin to embark on killing spree and suicide mission.

It is a film that is loaded with lessons on the need to remain faithful to the marriage vows and the need for husbands not to neglect the emotional needs of their wives as they go about in pursuit of better life.

Rated 18 by the National Film and Video Censors Board, The Power Behind the Throne is an average film that can be improved upon. There is a lot of dead time that could have been eliminated and background music that seems to overshadow dialogue in some of the scenes.

But is a good film produced and directed by Ikenna Chukwuka and Fox Nwokike.  The firebrand actor, Alex Usifo and Bob Manuel Udokwu featured briefly in the film suggesting that they were used by the producers to cajole Nigerians to buy the film. Berth Egenty played George, Calista Ezehi played Silvia, Alex Usifo played Chief Greg, Bob Manuel Udokwu played Benjamin while Stella Ike played Diana. Others are, Rotimi Salami who played Oliver while Sonia Asomugha played Kate.
