Senator Pius Ewherido, representing Delta State Federal Central constituency is dead. He was 50. He is said to have died of stroke. Ewherido was elected Senator in the 2011 general election on the platform of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP).

Born May 4, 1963 in Ughelli, Delta State, Ewherido attended Notre Dame College, Ozoro and Urhobo College, Effurun, Delta State before proceeding to the University of Ife where he studied Philosophy. He was also at University of Benin, where he studied Law.

Ewherido was a member of United Nigerian Congress Party (UNCP) during the third republic but left politics for business due to military incursion. He joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998. A year later he was elected to represent the Ughelli South constituency election in the Delta State House of Assembly where he rose to become Deputy Speaker of the House. He was until his death a member of the DPP.
