Danger currently looms in Epe, a suburb of Lagos State as a new armed group has surfaced and now parades town in broad daylight with guns.
Tagged Muwon Eredo LCDA, the group mingle freely in the midst of the population like armed members of the security forces unmolested by members of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
The uniform group which also has a brand new hilux patrol van operates within Epe like regular members of the police force. Many are however surprised that such a group allegedly set up by Eredo Local Council Development Area(LCDA) in conjunction with the District Police Officer(DPO) in the area is armed whereas, the Lagos State Government outfits like Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA), Kick Against Indiscipline(KAI) and Neighbourhood Watchers are not armed by the state government.
When contacted, Chairman of the LCDA, Mr. Sabiu Omolaja Adelaja told Starconnectmedia that he should forward his queries to the District Police Officer in the area for answers. “I think you can ask the DPO about that, they are just complementing the work of the police. This is a vigilante group in Eredo LCDA. You will see the types of arms they are carrying. It is not thesame type of guns that the police carry. The guns are licensed and this is a registered vigilante group”, the chairman said
We called Police Public Relations Officer, Ms. Ngozi Braide for comments but we could not reach her. Her male aide who picked the call said she is a meeting.
