    2 confirmed dead as 3 storey building collapses at Akoka

    ONIKE, Lagos, Nigeria – Not less than two people have been confirmed dead and two others rescued  alive when a  three storey building collapsed at 8 Akanbi Crescent, Akoka, near University of Lagos, UNILAG main gate.

    Speaking on the incident, Director General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Okey Osayinatolu said the affected building was under construction when it collapsed.

    Although  five people are said to have been trapped underneath the building,  three others are said to have been extricated as at press time.

    According to him, further investigation revealed that the construction workers were on site when the structure came down adding that quick deployment of the agency equipment made it possible for some to be rescued alive.

    He explained that Commissioner for Special Duties,  Engineer Bamgbose Martins,  Commissioner for Physical Planning, TPL Salako, LASAMBUS,  Lagos State Task Force, fire service and policemen are  currently on site of the operation
